National Assisted Living Week Begins on Sunday!

Shelley Sabo in AHCA / NCAL News, NYSCAL Notes

National Assisted Living Week begins this Sunday, Grandparent’s Day, September 8, 2013.  This year’s theme, Homemade Happiness, encompasses the connection that occurs in communities between the staff, residents, and families as they build warm, welcoming, and vibrant homes. Celebrating the passionate commitment of staff and friendships that form between residents, “Homemade Happiness” is a time to recognize the efforts, small and large, of every individual in a community that turns a residence into home for countless assisted living residents. Join us in holding festive events that highlight the groundbreaking role our profession plays in caring for America’s seniors.

A special reminder to NYSCAL members to document your celebration with photographs so that you can submit an application and related materials next year for the NYSCAL Award for Best Programming for National Assisted Living Week. NYSCAL issued a press release earlier this week about National Assisted Living Week and can be viewed on the NYSCAL website,

Established by the National Center for Assisted Living in 1995, National Assisted Living Week® provides a unique opportunity for residents, families, staff, volunteers, and the surrounding community to come together to share with our residents a variety of events and activities that show them how much we care for them.  For planning assistance, ideas for activities and templates for public relations, please go to
